A dual-tree Sorc is typically your best bet, and you can usually get away with select skills from all three.Īs another answer mentions, the MeteOrb build is the best choice for a Sorc looking to be independently effective through Hell difficulty. By the end of Act V Normal, you will have faced at least one powerful Cold-immune (Frozenstein, and Duriel in Act II also has high Cold resistance in Normal and is immune in NM/H) and several immune monsters in the gauntlet that you face when confronting Baal. However, if I could find a stable thresher rack or other elite polearm (other than cv) within a few hours, that would certainly be my best option. You cannot survive even Normal difficulty with a Sorc that focuses on one skill, at least not without help (and help is rare in D2 nowadays most have moved on to D3). I understand they have only slightly worse odds to drop these elite polearms than hell cows, and I could sort of hybrid run them with 200MF or so, so I could be finding other good items with a decent chance to drop the polearms. I gather that farming hell cows would probably take 100-200 runs or so, and that would take quite a while. I haven't even been able to find anecdotal evidence about how long I should expect to be resetting maps and testing racks at different angles, so I was hoping for some input. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth my time to try and farm up a thresher rack (for an eth 4os elite polearm) or if it takes so long to find the right map/rack that my time would be better off in hell cows, or even just running pits/AT.
